This has to be my ultimate favorite book and love the style, print and cover.
Ty Webb once said that a flute with only one hole isn't really a flute, and a donut without a hole is a danish. It was true then and it's true now, and a remarkably prescient preface to one's immersion into the pimply, purple world Meyer has created.
This book is AMAZING! Before I read this book I was bored to death. I had read all of my other books at least fifty times. I still found it impossible to decide which book was my favourite. And then my life changed- I got Twilight. I read it and toally loved it. The following three bools just got better and better. I would reccomend this book for any one-I couldn't put it down
I finally read this book after being prodding by friends and relatives. I had a feeling I wouldn't like it, but I decided I would at least give it a fair shake by actually reading it.

I wish I hadn't.

This book is just awful. This book is easily the worst book I've ever read. Aside from the obvious problems with this book that have been repeatedly stated here and elsewhere on the internet, there are 4 of my own I'd like to add.

1-This book says so much with saying so little. Meyer spends effort detailing minutia that no one could possibly care about. The first chapter of the book could have been reduced to a few pages. I don't care how she unpacked or how she walked up the stairs. Verbiage, the verbiage is just cumbersome. Every other paragraph expresses some odd facial contortion or heart murmur. Where is the depth? Who is Bella Swan? Where/what is her inner dialog? What makes her tick? What are her strengths? I get it, she's clumsy. (How many times does this have to be driven home?) I get it, she doesn't like herself much. What else? How did she become so self loathing? How did she get to a point of falling in love with someone so easily, someone who treats her poorly? What about Edward? Who is he? What are his flaws? What are his weaknesses? I get it, he's perfect at everything, he's perfect looking, he's perfect in every way, other than being a jerk to Bella. Why is he a jerk to her? Does the author think that disrespect and sexism is normal for a relationship?

2-Normally when I'm reading a book, even a book I don't like much, I find myself sinking in. I become so absorbed by the story that I'm not even aware that I'm reading anymore. I sink in. I didn't sink in at any point with Twilight. I never felt absorbed by this story. Each and every word I read I was aware that I was reading. It was tedious and boring, almost painful at times. There was no story to pull me in, nothing made me care. There was no plot, the characters are empty and vapid. Maybe I'm too old to care about an impossibly beautiful boy...but it seems so shallow.

3-That brings me to my next point. Why do these people love each other? Because Bella finds Edward pretty and because Edward finds Bella fragrant? And this is the foundation for a great romance? Pretty and smelly? I kept waiting for something more. A respect to grow. But instead they are snarky and impatient with each other. They are evasive and manipulative. He makes fun of her lack of intelligence, her lack of coordination and many other things. She lets him mock her and she worships him in return. She is so obsessed with his LOOKS that she doesn't care that he treats her like garbage. He is so obsessed with her juicy smelling blood he does care that she's clearly not a match for him in any other way.

4-This COULD have been good. It could have been an exploration that went on a similar path as Dexter. A Monster who wishes to be a part of a peaceful world. Instead it was a sappy and empty teen romance, and a poor one at that. Nothing deep explored, no bigger questions asked. And, no, not every book needs to do that, but I feel like in good writing those things happen naturally.

To wrap this up I will just say that I cannot understand how so many people like this. Have they read anything else before? It was so poorly written it took me several tries to just finish it. I cannot, and will not read the other books in this series. I've only heard these things I've mentioned here get worse.
twilight is an amazing book that you must read if you like the perfect plot, forrbiden romance.
